Evidence

Although improved patient outcomes have been found to be associated with collaborative practice interventions, the field of interprofessional education is relatively new, and therefore, at this time, there is a lack of evidence for evaluating the long term outcomes of IPE on health care and practice.

However, there are studies that support the relationship between interprofessional education strategies and improved immunization rates among high risk patients, decreased treatment costs in the care of low birth infants, increased parental satisfaction with the care of their child, increased patient satisfaction with care, enhanced attitudes of students towards collaboration and interprofessional approaches, and increased collaboration and communication among team members. Evidence for evaluating the long term outcomes of IPE on health care and practice will be added as available.
